In 2019, the Baptist Association of NSW & ACT decided that a key area of focus for the 2020-2022 Strategic Plan would be justice for our First Nation peoples. We called ourselves to be “discerning our place and playing our role in Indigenous reconciliation and ministry”.
We joined with Baptist World Aid Australia, BaptistCare, Baptist Financial Services, Morling College, Baptist Mission Australia and A Just Cause to invite Indigenous Christian Leaders to help us discern what “walking together” looks like for Baptists. We asked these Indigenous leaders to provide a session on a topic of their choice. We called these workshops “First Nations Listening Days”, and took a posture of listening – allowing them to share with us what they thought we needed to hear.
