Good News from Baptist World Aid!

The first and most important ask from Baptist World Aid Australia’s postcard campaign has been granted by the Australian Government!

Three years ago, on February 1, 2021, a military junta in Myanmar plunged the country into fresh civil war. Over 2.6 million people are now displaced, thousands have been killed, and whole villages destroyed, along with schools and hospitals.

The good news? On 01 February 2024, the Foreign Minister’s office announced that Australia will impose new and immediate sanctions on the financial institutions that Myanmar’s tyrannical military junta use to fund their operations — further squeezing the junta’s capacity to continue their illegitimate administration and, we hope and pray, move the country towards a lasting peace, and a democratically elected government.

We’re grateful for this positive step forward, however there is still more to be done for our brothers and sisters in Myanmar and ongoing advocacy work will continue throughout this year. In the meantime, if you’d like to donate in support of Baptist World Aid’s work delivering essential aid, and serving people in need in and around Myanmar, you can give here.
