Mosaic Community Church is pastored by Heath Whiley. David O’Connor, Lead Pastor of NewHope Church, met Heath at a Christmas lunch for pastors and ministry workers in the Greater West for Christ region just before Christmas last year. “Heath told me that he was planting a neighbourhood church in Jordan Springs, with a heart to see people come to faith and grow as disciples in his local neighbourhood,” David shares. “I was inspired by his commitment and the time-lapse video he showed me of his team setting up church in his front yard and garage.”

David asked Heath about the church’s story and how he was being supported. “Heath mentioned that there were two other NSW churches who were supporting him financially, and this allowed him to be paid in a (very) part-time capacity. His other job was driving a bus for a local Christian school, and he’s also stepping into a chaplaincy role in a local school. Heath said their biggest challenge was finances, and in regards to Sundays, the fact that it could get a little hot and uncomfortable doing open-air ministries in the garage and under the tent!”

So, David decided that his church would sow a small, simple seed into this church plant, via two large industrial fans from Bunnings – a Christmas present that could help keep the people of Mosaic a little cooler, and help them to continue growing in strength and number. “At NewHope Church, we’re intentional about our God-given values, and make conscious decisions that align with those,” David says. “Seeing Heath’s heart for his neighbourhood, and our desire to see local, life-giving churches established, the decision to bless and support him in this very small way was a no-brainer!”
