We’ve always known that GodSpace is an excellent Special Religious Education (SRE) and Religious Instruction (RI) curriculum, and now that’s being recognised by Christian Media & Arts Australia (CMAA). The GodSpace curriculum is a finalist for the CMAA 2025 Beacon Award.
GodSpace is a three-year primary school SRE/RI curriculum that introduces kids to the God of the Bible and the Christian faith. GodSpace provides an age-appropriate, enriching environment for kids to question, explore and discover life issues in the context of the Christian faith.
Because of GodSpace, NSW & ACT Baptist Churches has been nominated for the Beacon Award, an award for organisations that shine as leaders in innovative and meaningful community transformation. This award celebrates initiatives that advance the transformation of lives, society and culture through Christian media and the arts.
Tammy Earnshaw, GodSpace Operations Coordinator, isn’t surprised they’ve been nominated. “Students and teachers alike love GodSpace!,” says Tammy, “The high quality of the media resources makes SRE/RI lessons more impacting as it provides educationally and theologically sound content which grabs students’ attention allowing them to easily connect and remember what they have learned about the character of God and how they can explore and apply this teaching in their own lives.”
Tammy regularly gets feedback like this comment for one GodSpace RI Teacher: “[I] just wanted to say what a joy your GodSpace materials are, how easy they make lesson preparation and how the kids love the lessons.”
And, just as excitingly, the Exploring with Goober videos, an animated series developed as part of the GodSpace curriculum, have been nominated in the Compelling Content category of the CMAA Awards. The Compelling Content Award recognises innovative and engaging screen media that demonstrates excellence in storytelling, production quality and audience impact.
Goober videos are an outstanding resource in the GodSpace curriculum. The students really love them and ask for them every lesson. They enjoy the content, the humour and the way Goober asks the questions that they themselves may have about faith.
“The kids I teach love the Goober videos!” says one GodSpace RI Teachrer, “I think they have been very popular because they’re very witty and well-made. Whenever I use a Goober video in my RI lesson, the students always ask if they can watch it again. It really helps the kids to engage with the lesson and content. They also explain very important biblical points in a way that kids can understand.”
“One big, big positive of this curriculum is GOOBER,’ says another GodSpace RI Teacher, “the kids just love him and the videos are just great! They really look forward to these each week. It makes my lessons more fun for the students and makes teaching RI much easier. It’s so much harder to engage students these days and present the content in a way that is relatable especially for kids who don’t have any church background – the introduction Goober videos really make a difference!”
Thousands of students in over 2,000 schools across Australia continue to question, explore, and discover the character of God through the GodSpace curriculum. The NSW & ACT Baptist Churches team is expanding its SRE/RI curriculums, starting Development of FaithSpace, a high school SRE/RI curriculum.
“Our Vision for FaithSpace is to create a flexible High School SRE curriculum that sparks curiosity in students to grow their faith by building bridges between Biblical understanding and their life experience,” says Heidi Tak, Associate Director of Operations.
